CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE DAY!
An evening of fun for the entire family!

PRESS RELEASE

July 2nd, 2006
Downtown Gualala

The First Annual Gualala Fireworks Display took place at 9:15 PM on Sunday July 2nd 2006. The display was seen from most of downtown Gualala and surrounding area. It was a spectacular display that was coordinated with music on our local KTDE FM radio station. In addition to the Fireworks display Gualala was decorated with American Flags and Patriotic displays.  A lot of merchants participated in the Patriotic Display Contest sponsored by the Festivals Committee.  The judges were Alice Nelsen of Gualala and Jer Skibbins of The Sea Ranch.  The 1st place winner was Jack's Gualala Pharmacy with a $100 prize.
The 2nd place winner went to Meza Grill  with a $50 prize and 3rd place went to Tom's Plumbing with a $25 prize.  Honorable mention goes to: The Sea Cliff Center, Pacific Woods Video, and Cypress Bar & Grill.  It was a tough decision with so many quality displays.  The Gualala Festivals Committee would like to thank the community for their participation.

From July 2nd to the 4th, Benjamin Franklin came to life welcoming all to the festivities, handing out flags and famous quotes.  He was spotted signing his best selling book "The Farmer's Almanac" at a local book store.

A few locals did not want this event to occur, believing that the fireworks would disrupt the environment or the local wild life.  Below are some answers about fireworks and the environment.
